Brovdi Larysa

Honoured Artist of Ukraine, laureate of the Regional Prize in the field of fine arts named after Y. Bokshai and A. Erdeli. The most attractive in Larysa Brovdi’s creativity is artistic optimism, irrepressible eagerness for creation, and love of art over the years. In the community of contemporary artists of Transcarpathia her attractive artistic figure stands out with special education and good manners, artistic tact, delicacy, and sharp paint aestheticism.

Larysa Brovdi was born on July 18, 1939 in the distant city of Ashhabat. Whena young girl Larysa, together with her family, moved to Transcarpathia, which became her second motherland. After graduation from Uzhhorod Art College, where professional disciplines were taught by such recognized connoisseurs and researchers of the regional folklore and ethnography as Fedir Manailo, Vasyl Svyda, the couple Mykola and Edita Medvetski, the young artist determined her artistic priorities in the field of arts and crafts without any hesitation. And the dominant became hand weaving. Her woven creative works became very significant, notable symbolic phenomenon in the fine arts of the region. Perfect in composition, refined in colour and plastic, artistic in technique and manner of performance, they combined the decorative qualities of traditional folk carpet weaving and visual stylistics of professional applied art.

Eventually, artistic preferences of Larysa tended to easel painting. Oil paints, like woollen yarn, became pliable material in the talented hands of the master. Paintings, like tapestries, are organized according to the laws of decorativeness, aesthetics, and harmony. All the richness and diversity of our lives falls in the range of the creative view of the artist.

Whatever the thematic variation Larysa Brovdi refers to, among her artistic conceptual intentions there are invariably dominating positivistic, ideological ideas, and enlightened artistic intonations are becoming clear. The main principle of its formation is poeticizing and mythologization of associative images. Her painting references carry a special exciting and intriguing vagueness. The artist with her light hand opens a window into the magnetizing "female" painting world, from where "flows" the mysterious light - rays of faith, conscience, goodness, love, and harmony.

A theme of the woman is the invariable companion of the whole artistic life of Larysa Brovdi. In the author's paintings there are often images of bright, light, elongated female figures dressed in clothes of pastel shades. In terms of L. Brovdi’s creativity, they are symbols of graceful nobility and high spirituality, bearers of immoderate moral values, an object and source of love. The generalization and stylization of painting and plastic images, the conventions of the colour palette, the flickering glare of lighting create in the author's compositions a sense of the infinity of space, the leisurely fluidity of time, the mystery and associativity of artistic images, she seems to be afraid of breaking the delicate line between the real and fictional world, reality and creative presentation.
