2019
The famous Transcarpathian artist Stepan Sholtes decided to celebrate his 75th anniversary with the exhibition. On 25 May 2019 in the Transcarpathian Art Museum named after Y. Bokshai it was opened the exhibition of paintings of the artist.
He loved art since his childhood: the artist from the age of 10 was an active participant in contests and exhibitions; therefore, he celebrates not only his anniversary, but also the 65th anniversary of his creative activity.
“I love to draw. Mostly I have oil painting, although there are a lot of graphics: pastels, watercolours – but this is all for future exhibitions”, – Stepan Sholtes said.
Almost fifty works made with oil on canvas and cardboard, this time the artist presented in the exhibition halls of the museum. There are several works in the exposition depicting the sacral architecture of the region, but traditionally landscapes prevail – they will transfer the viewer to different parts of Transcarpathia, which the artist loves most.
“It's impossible to live in the Carpathians and not to love mountains,” Stepan Sholtes said. – In the mountains is my heart – this is my credo. Without mountains, I cannot imagine neither life nor painting! These are beautiful pure colours, fresh air, and sound sleep. I especially love the autumn to draw: sometimes the snow is already on the tops, the forest is darker below, and flowers and grass are still blooming under the feet. Here you have a composition, both colour and scale.”
The artist admits: his favourite area is Mizhhiria region, because “there are many evergreen fir-tree forests, and against their background any colour looks good.”
The exhibition will last until 7 June 2019.
