“Spring Expression”

From 1 March 2019, in the Gallery “Dyptykh” in Uzhhorod, it was held an exhibition of paintings by Kharkiv spouses Olena Markovych and Dmytro Makovetskyi. Young artists presented to the Transcarpathian art admirers a selection of canvases that truly transcend the mood of nature, a sense of birth, awakening from sleep. 16 works are selected thematically and combined by the common title “Spring Expression”.

One of the organizers of the exhibition, the co-owner of the “Dyptych” salon Olha Kadachihova, said that the idea of presenting the works of Kharkiv residents in Uzhhorod arose a long time ago since at one time the artists came to the plein air in Transcarpathia and we became interested in their works. “We have been keeping contact for many years, I really like the Kharkiv School of painting, because it is distinguished from our Transcarpathian, and we really wanted to present our audience with something new, unusual, to get acquainted with those trends, processes taking place in another region – told Olha. – Every year, before the opening of the salon, we arrange some interesting action, so now, on the 12th anniversary, the idea of this exhibition arose. In general, it seems to me that we must see different things to appreciate our own.”
Olena Markovych was born in 1987 in Donetsk. She graduated from Donetsk Art College. From 2006 to 2012 – a student of the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts. Studied at the studio of portrait-genre painting under the guidance of professors V. Hanotskyi and V. Chausa. Participant in national and international exhibitions and plein airs. The artist’s works are in private collections in Ukraine, Israel, Russia, France, and the Netherlands. Dmytro Makovetskyi – a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (Youth Association) since 2010. He was born in 1985 in the city of Murmansk (Russia). He graduated from the Murmansk State Pedagogical University, specializing in interior design. From 2008 to 2013, he studied at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts, Department of Easel Painting. His teachers were Honoured Artists of Ukraine V Kovtun, Y. Vintaiev. Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (Youth Association). Member of national and international plein-airs and exhibitions.

At the heart of creativity of both artists – incredible tenderness, sincerity, and openness.  The art style of Dmytro Makovetskyi is different at first glance with chaotic, large strokes which, in combination with the always thoughtful and contrasting background, give the viewer the impression of presence. The author believes that the works should have sensuality, emotions, pulsating living picturesque space, and he really succeeds in conveying these feelings. Olena Markovych transmits her vision of the world with broad, confident strokes, her palette is lyrical and light, and each canvas creates and conveys a special mood. Expressive and at the same time responsive works better reflect not only the character but also the author’s handwriting of the young artist. In her works the artist tries to show what inspires her – this is the beauty of the surrounding world.

The exhibition “Spring Expression” will last at least until 15 March 2019..
