"Cultural Landscape" exhibition by Pavlo Kovach

On 24 October 2017, Pavlo Kovach, a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, presented his works on the theme "Cultural Landscape" at the exhibition halls of the ILKO Gallery.

"My works are united by the idea of a cultural landscape. This should be understood as follows: we are inside life and the earth at the same time. As we say that we are on the surface – this is a landscape. But, we cannot live without oxygen, without the space. All the ancient myths, legends are written through the space – this is the starry sky, which was a cultural body. As long as I live –I am interested in this theme, it worries me, accordingly, I work with it, but in different ways," Pavlo Kovach explains.

The exposition includes about 40 works, among which not only oil painting, but also installations. The artist treats them interestingly: "Apart from the painting area, I work with objects. Here is the first water pipe in Transcarpathia, which is more than a hundred years old. It is made of tin and lead. When I cut it, I saw the landscape – a dry river."

Together with the paintings presented are the author's texts. "I do not intend to compete with writers, my style is somewhat dadaistic. I make the space free to look at painting differently.  There is visual and verbal art – it is not an addition to works, texts are presented in parallel" – the author says.

As noted by the art critic Mykhailo Syrokhman during the opening of the exhibition, Pavlo Kovach is one of the most interesting and best artists of the modern generation: "One always wants to speak about Pavlo Kovach with special respect and inspiration. He gives happiness, a sense of something unusual. You go to the exhibition and you know that some unknown road is waiting for you. I am deeply interested in his works. It seems that he summarized all the work that he had done with the presented works. The living pulsating energy is Kovach, this is his philosophy, feeling and world presentation. He is one of the few who can verbally accompany his visual achievements, to give an opportunity to understand what is happening in art through the words."

The exhibition of works by Pavlo Kovach "Cultural Landscape" will last until 15 November 2017.
