Graphic works of Heorhii Levadskyi were presented in Uzhhorod

On 28 September 2017, in the premises of the Transcarpathian Regional Universal Scientific Library named after F. Potushniak it was presented graphic works of Heorhii Levadskyi.

Heorhii Levadskyi is a thinker, an intellectual, a philosopher; he is called the successor of the traditions of the Transcarpathian school of painting. Being both an artist and a philosopher, he entered the history of Transcarpathian fine art as a painter and a graphic artist of lyrical talent. For the artist's creativity, typical are generalization, stylization and rich colours.

In the library's premises, about three dozen works of the late artist were presented to the public by his wife – an artist Emma Levadska. “These are not pictures-Mrs. Emma remarks-these are sketches for the paintings. They were created from the lives of ordinary people, typical Uzhhorod citizens. He deeply plunged into their hearts to convey their state and character. But, the works had to be increased in size, as they all were small. However, the original works were not preserved.”

The presented works were executed with a pencil and a gel pen - there are a lot of such sketches among the masterpieces of Heorhii Levadskyi: he often made several sketches, on the basis of which he created a full-scale painting. Most of them went to those who were depicted by the master.

Heorhii Levadskyi was also keen on the wooden churches of Transcarpathia – he compared them with living people who communicate with those who come to them, have soul and character.

He did not like publicity, but he liked to create, as those who knew the artist recalls.

The exhibition will last for two weeks and then it will travel to other places.
