Reiti Janos

Laureate of the Regional Prize named after Y. Bokshai and A. Erdeli. Member of the Society of Hungarian Artists of Transcarpathia named after Imre Revesz. 

He was born in Irshava. In the family of Yoni and Iryna there were five children and only Janos became an artist. The master remembers the time when he first started painting as follows: “From my first years I painted around the house and all the furniture. That was fully supported by my father... In fact, my dad sanctified me as an artist with his loyalty, while the society treated me not so good - I entered Uzhhorod School of Applied Art only on the third time." At the end of the school, for some time he worked at the former Uzhhorod Advertising Complex – he was designing signboards, printed products. In the 80s he got a job at the Complex of the Art Fund of the Ukrainian SSR under the Union of Artists. When Ukraine became independent, it began the time of the artist's own creative plein airs and exhibitions.

He was a student of the famous Transcarpathian teachers of drawing - Shandor Petki and Vilmosh Berets. The artist had warm, friendly relations with the famous Transcarpathian avant-gardist and non-conformist, the late Ferenc Seman (Osci). Thanks to this friendship, Janos chose the path of a free artist in his life and work. In the artist's studio, literally filled up with canvases, frames, paintings and paper stands, one can see the artist's multifaceted creativity: still lifes, landscapes, abstractions, sketches, graphics.

The artist takes themes for his paintings from the beautiful world that surrounds him - these are the picturesque Carpathians, a bouquet in a vase or an elegant little house with a flower garden in the courtyard. A special place in the artist’s works is devoted to a woman - mysterious or frank, seductive and incredibly delicate. The master sees the immense beauty, harmony, perfection in everything, and he does not stop admiring it: "When I see a beautiful woman, I feel awakening in my heart, my life becomes meaningful, not least because of the beauty that should be noticed; it can be found in the literature, both in music and in painting. Therefore, someone finds the beauty in the notes, someone - in paints, it is not given to everybody, it is necessary to have a God’s gift. Though all the paths in the painting are well-trodden, but there must be a vision, style, that is somehow different from the others. I borrowed something from Erdeli, Kashshai, Manailo, but I never copied anyone."

The author of book illustrations: Janos Reіti illustrated a children's book of poems written by Weinrauch Katalin "Cirkuszvarazs" ("Enchanted Circus").
