SZILVASHI TIBERIY

He is a corresponding member of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts.

He was born in Mukachevo. He lives and works in Kyiv. In 1965 he graduated from the Republican School of Art named after T. Shevchenko (Kyiv), and in 1971 - Kyiv State Art Institute. He is the Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 1978. He has been an active participant of republican, all-union (USSR) and international art exhibitions since 1972. Не is among the most famous creative personalities of modern Ukrainian art. Member of the Jury of Student Contest in Painting “Silver Easel” (2016, spring 2017).

At this time the artist experiments much, combines various picturesque means and formats, and comes up with the idea to “chronorealism”. In 1988-1991 the Chairman of the Board of Kyiv Organization of Union of Artist of Ukraine. He organised plein-airs and headed youth groups in Sedniv. In 1992 he created the association “Painting Reserve", which played an important role in the creative life of the artist and making the image of contemporary art in Ukraine. In 1995 he received the award “Artist of the Year” in Ukraine and scholarship from Munich Municipality (Germany). At the International Art Festival in Kyiv in 1996 and in 1998 he became a curator of art projects “Non-narrativity” and “Biennale of non-figurative painting”. Since 2012, he has become the member of “Alliance 22”. The artist's work is well known both in Ukraine and abroad. His first personal exhibition he held in 1993 in Toulouse (France). Since then for the twenty-year period (1993-2014) he held about 40 personal expositions in Ukraine and abroad.

Besides, the artist is engaged in the theory of contemporary art, he is the author of texts and essays about the outstanding artists of the past and the present. He combines innovative post-conceptual strategies with traditions of colouristic culture. He became known for the aspiration “to move apart” picture borders, make it an open structure, where the picture, space, and the viewer are the integral parts of the composition. In many of his projects, the viewer is able to tactilely feel the colour in space and what Silvashi calls "slowing of time". Works of the artist are at numerous museums, galleries and private collections in Ukraine, Europe and the USA. Now the artist works with the galleries: “Shcherbenko Art Centre”, “Ya Gallery” of Pavlo Gudimov (Kyiv), “Diehl Gallery” (Berlin) and “Theca Gallery” (Milan).
