Biography

Yevhen Sarana was born on 3 September 1948 in Berehovo, Transcarpathia.

His father was a drawing teacher, so it was he who exposed his son's artistic skill and taught him the basics of drawing. Later, Yevhen entered the Uzhhorod School of Applied Arts graduating in 1968. He continued his studies in 1975 at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Moscow Extramural People's University of Arts.

In the early 70s, the artist painted watercolour landscapes in the technique of grisaille, which, despite their monochromaticity, were rich in shades and mysterious essence. Subsequently, the works of the artist got saturated, sometimes daring colours. Thus, gradually, step by step, the author approached abstractions and expressions in his creativity.

The artist also worked in the technique of oil painting. The favourite genre of the artist, which distinguished him from among others, became a cosmic landscape born in a rich and violent imagination. Yevhen Sarana began a new direction in fine arts: Ingneizm – the spiritual essence of the Universe, based on the inherent vision of the universe: Universe – Abstraction or “Universe of Sarana”. In his psychedelic works, the artist created the new Worlds. He stated: “The New Idea, reflected on the canvas, will be materialized by the Spiritual essence of the Universe … The Universe is infinite, but infinite is also its knowledge, including through fine art.”

The artist also created a series of works on the theme of protecting and saving the Earth, the concept of which calls the viewers to think of the fact that the crises and the catastrophes of human civilization originate in the misconception about the Universe and the misunderstanding of a man’s place in it.

In April 2011, in Uzhhorod, Yevhen Sarana was creating a large-scale oil painting in the “a la prima” technique during a day in one of the central squares of the city. It represented the artist’s vision of the universe and its structure.

The author’s works are represented by the online gallery of Saatchi Art resource. The artist's plans were to open an art gallery in his hometown, but they were not to be implemented.
