PUHA PETRO

Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1993). He was born in Mukachevo, Thanscarpathian region. He lives and works in Hungary. From 1970 – 1974, he studied at the Art Design Department of the Uzhhorod College of Applied Arts, where his teachers were I. Harapko, V. Svyda, S. Petki, I. Demidiuk, A. Dunchak. The artist developed his own picturesque manner, based on muted colours, wide gradations of a palette of brown, green, greyish-ochre tones. In the theme and style of his works, in particular landscapes, there is a close connection with the Transcarpathian painting tradition. In the works of the artist it is felt his fascination by microcosm of Hutsul farmstead. Sacral rest of a hut with all the utensils, the divine majesty of the church are successfully conveyed on the canvas, making them equivalent to Lord's creations - the Carpathian Mountains, waterfalls, lakes.

In portraits, the artist does not seek individualization, psychological disclosure of the character, but prefers a generalized image that gravitates to a certain degree to iconography. Since 1979 he has participated in regional, and since 1987-in all-Ukrainian art exhibitions. The main personal exhibitions of the artist were held in 1992 in Mukachevo and in 2011 in the Kyiv gallery “AVS Art”. After moving to Hungary, he actively participates in the cultural life of the Ukrainian community in Budapest (art exhibitions of 2014 and 2016). Petro Puha’s canvases can be seen in museums and galleries in Ukraine (Kyiv, Uzhhorod, Mukachevo), Russia (Moscow), Hungary (Vac, Budapest), as well as in private collections.
