Biography

Member of the Association of Professional Artists of Transcarpathia. He was born in Khust. From 1958 to 1961 he studied at Kyiv Art School named after T. Shevchenko. Upon its completion from 1961 to 1967 he acquired professional education in the Kyiv State Art Institute, Department of Easel Graphics. The mentors of the artist at this time were V. Kasian, H. Yakutovych, M. Derehus, I. Spivakov. He devoted his entire professional life to pedagogical activity-since 1969 he has been teaching at the Uzhhorod College of Arts named after A. Erdeli under Transcarpathian Academy of Arts. Creative works of the artist are extremely rich and diverse: from landscapes and still lifes to murals, icon painting works and portraits. In the genre of still life, simple at the first glance flowers and ripe fruit by the artist's virtuosic brush are transformed into attractive canvases. The artist's landscapes are vivid, carefully painted to minute details, extremely optimistic. In the genre of portrait, he manages to literally look into the soul of the person he portrays and reproduce it into the canvas. The artist's paintings are characterized by the originality of the idea, personal feelings of the plot, created with confident, light brush, filled with deep feelings. A special place in the work of V. Petretskyi is occupied by icons. His works are orthodox, created on the model of ancient painting traditions. Thus, in the St. Nicholas Monastery of Iza-Karpovtlash village, Khust district there are works of the artist “The Resurrection of Jesus Christ”, “The Image of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Tver”.

Petretskyi is also known as a master of book graphics. He designed numerous books of various genres dedicated to the Transcarpathian folklore and ethnography, in particular, collections of fairy tales "The Mystery of the Glass Mountain" (1975), "Bunnies Bell" (1997), a collection of songs "Let's sing Kolomyika" (1995), as well as works of Transcarpathian writers F. Potushniak, Y. Meihesh and others. Original and interesting compositions of the artist are the murals in the former pioneer camp "Young Guard" in Odesa, in the sanatorium "Poliana" in Svaliava (in collaboration with the artist Ivan Didyk), works of decorative panels in the technique of intarsia for Pedagogical School of Mukachevo.
