Biography

He was born in Lutsk. From 1995 to 1999 he studied at the Lutsk Higher Professional School of Civil Engineering and Architecture at the Arts and Crafts Department.

After graduation, he entered the Lviv National Academy of Arts, Department of Art Glass (class of the professor, academician A. Bokotei), where he studied until 2005 and subsequently, until 2009, he was a lecturer there. From 2009 to 2011 he taught at the Transcarpathian Art Institute. The artist lives and works in Uzhhorod.

Viktor works in painting (canvas, acrylic, aerography), graphics, installations. One of the artist’s favourite techniques is the hollow glass (the exhibition "Immersion" – a combination of glass with ceramics). Regarding the style, as Viktor himself says, he doesn’t get stuck doing one thing, he works and experiments, does what he likes, in general - "he goes his own way" and let art critics define what he has achieved.

In his work, the artist does not seek to accurately convey what he saw, it is rather philosophical works, the perception of the universe, life, love, contemporary challenges through the prism of the inner self. That is why one can see in Viktor's paintings calm tones and semitones, hints and desires that set the viewers on contemplation, reflection, deepening into themselves, analysing and predicting. "I am interested in future processes more than in the past, and this is to a certain extent reflected in my work," the artist says.

Installation is another way of the artist’s self-expression. Viktor takes on the interpretation of philosophical truths, chooses the themes and motives relevant to all the humanity. Thus, in 2010, the artist created the installation "The Catcher in the Rye", which he commented as follows: "Over the last two hundred years, the development of technologies has progressed very much, beyond our conscious control. Modern technologies help people, but above all, they have a devastating function. They destroy us from the inside, destroy our living "human" relationships. It's getting scary, despite our history, we associate ourselves with the "creator", we can do a lot, but we do not always think about the result. Although it is not really technology, we, people themselves, destroy ourselves and our home, the Earth. The question arises – what will we do with our native planet? Are we going to destroy everything alive here?" and he cited the Albert Einstein's statement: "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them."

A lot of projects were performed by Viktor Melnychuk together with his wife, an artist Beata Korn.
Thus, the artistic couple presented a joint exhibition in the "Shcherbenko Art Centre" in 2015. One of the brightest joint art projects – "Immersion" presented in 2016 in the art-space "TseGlynaArt" with the support of the Sky Art Foundation. There were presented the art objects made of glass and ceramics created by the authors during 2016.
The artist collaborated with the galleries "Tsekh", "Shcherbenko Art Centre", "Ilko", "Green Sofa", Sky Art Foundation, etc.

The author of about a dozen individual exhibitions. Participant in more than two dozen collective exhibitions in Poland, Lithuania, Italy, and Russia. Laureate of international contests, the participant in numerous artistic symposiums in Ukraine and abroad.
