Biography

Adalbert Marton was born March 3, 1913 in the distant America, where destiny in search for better life brought his parents. In his childhood, together with his relatives he returned to their historic homeland - native Carpathian land. It is here, where the best paintings of the artist, which brought him well-deserved recognition among many connoisseurs, were created.

A. Marton came to the art of his land on the border of 1940 - 1950. This was a period of special rise and popularity of Transcarpathian landscape painting. The artist clearly demonstrated his commitment to this painting tradition. Thinly feeling charm and unique originality of the Carpathian nature, he sought to open by individual means of painting its "sensual portrait", emotional state, conformable to the author's mood. Distinguishing features of the visual style of the artist is the commitment to the realistic method of shaping, use of "quiet", harmonic colour with dominant green and ochre colours, expressive moulding of picturesque forms by means of wide vigorous dabs. Favourite landscape motive - chamber images of picturesque areas that often "animated" by staffage figures of people, who create in the picture expressive colour accents in the picture.

Painting admiration of A. Marton were not limited exclusively by sceneries. In the circle of his artistic interests - still life, portrait, story composition. Fresh flowers in plein air,  magnificent bouquets in glass vases and ceramic jugs in the creative imagination of the artist are an embodiment of the variety and beauty of the world. These canvases differ in richness of painting, formed by vigorous dynamic plasticity with use of expressive ringing decorative combinations.

Worth of attention are portraits of the painter. The author isn't limited to aspiration of maximum likelihood, but sets as the purpose to reveal the character of model, to transfer her emotional state.

Among the art works of A. Marton wide popularity had numerous images of gypsies and ballet dancers. Although these paintings are difficult to attribute to the highest artistic achievements of the artist, still they left a mark in his creative biography.

After the artist left for his permanent residence in Hungary in the mid-1960s, he repeatedly returned to his work for impressions and memories connected with the picturesque places of Transcarpathia, inspired him for further creative work.

Adalbert Marton lived a happy, long, and fruitful life in art. He created because he saw in it his calling. “In life, it's not important that everyone creates a big business and becomes a great person, but it is important that every small person leaves behind something small, but forever,” - the artist said. To the last breath he did not let the brush go of his hands, preparing for the jubilee exhibition on the occasion of his 95th anniversary. On March 22, 2007 the artist  died. Vernissage, unfortunately, passed without the author. But, his works with us forever - very kind and smiling, such as we remember their author. Being extremely pleasant and benevolent person, he created kind, pure, and true art. The paintings of the artist invariably radiate unbiased, clear, and trusting author's thoughts, emotions, and senses.
