Biography
Laureate of the Prize named after Y. Bokshai and A. Erdeli (2003). Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1999).
He was born in Chumalovo, Tiachiv district, Transcarpathian region. He studied at the Uzhhorod College of Applied Arts. In 1986, he graduated from the Lviv State Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts. A lecturer of the Transcarpathian Academy of Arts.
Among the artist’s works there are paintings, watercolours and graphics. In any genre, landscapes, portraits, still lifes or plot compositions, he demonstrates his mastery and artistic manner of performance. An art critic Olena Prykhodko describes his art as follows, "...sceneries and architectural landscapes of the artist - invariably exciting and attractive theme. They immerse in the radiant and perfect world of the natural environment, reveal its inner life and inimitable atmosphere ("Autumn in the Carpathians", "Spring Motif near Nevytskyi Village", "Autumn in Turychky Village", "An Old Church in Likitsary Village").” The sacred works of the artist are filled with special aura–one can feel the depth of the master’s spirituality, supersensitive comprehension of the world.
The artist is constantly in creative search, using each time a new colour palette, decorative and applied elements and images. He says: “My world is an exquisite world of colours that does not get out of my mind, it embarrasses and attracts, it has no end.” In general, the master’s paintings have a pronounced author's style and occupy an important place in contemporary art of Transcarpathia.
In addition to teaching in the Transcarpathian Academy of Arts and painting, the artist studies and explores the art of Transcarpathia, Ukraine, the world. Among his works there is an art album of Adalbert Erdeli, articles about the life and work of the artists of the region. The artist also illustrated poetry collections and children's books, performed restoration of wall paintings at the Catholic Cathedral in Lviv (1983) and Greek Catholic church in Bilky village, Irshava district, Transcarpathia (2002-2003).
Participant of the collective exhibitions (since 1992) and organizer of more than a dozen personal exhibitions (since 1994) in Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Germany, and Hungary.
The master's works are kept in the Transcarpathian Art Museum, National Museum in Lviv, Kyiv Museum of Russian Art, Art Museum in Swidnik (Slovakia), as well as in numerous private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
