Biography

Serhii Kostin was born on 11 November 1951 in Orenburg (Russia). His father, Hennadii Kostin, was a military man, and in 1953 he was sent to Transcarpathia, that’s why the Kostin family moved to Uzhhorod. In 1970, Serhii graduated from the Uzhhorod secondary school No.3. He got interested in art from the early age, thus, he learned fine art himself and followed the advice of his grandfather Ivan, who also was a self-taught artist. Upon graduation, Serhii got a job at the Art and Industrial Artel in Velyki Lazy village, Uzhhorod district of the Transcarpathian region. The artel carried out state orders for the production of decorative things and souvenirs of wood, ceramics, etc., as well as signboards, decorative paintings and other embossment products. From 1979 to 1988, Serhii Kostin was working as a driver in the state institution. Since 1992, he quitted work and devoted himself exclusively to embossment.

In his work, the artist most often used sea themes, the Greek epos, Ukrainian folklore. 

Serhii Kostin died on 23 January 2017. He was buried in Uzhhorod.

In 2018, Serhii Kostin’s wife donates about 30 works of the artist to the Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Life.
