KHARABARUK VADYM

He was born in Ivano-Frankivsk, lives and works in Uzhhorod. He attended art studio of Zoltan Bakoniia. He graduated from Uzhhorod College of Applied Arts (1985), studied in Lviv Institute of Art.

Since 1988, he has participated in art events of informal group of Uzhhorod artists “Left eye”. In 1996, together with the artist Petro Penzel he became a co-founder of the art group "Pop-trans" ("popular transformation"), the members of which are also: Robert Saller, Pavlo Kovach, Andrii Stehura, Natasha Shevchenko, and Viktor Pokydanets.

Since 1991 - member of group art exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad (Uzhhorod, Kyiv, Budapest, Paris, Berlin, Boston). He had personal exhibitions in Uzhhorod (1996, 2009), Kyiv (2000, 2002), Žilina (Slovakia, 2007), Lviv (2011), Odesa (2013).

He is a vivid follower of pop art direction. The works of the artist performed in pattern painting style differ in his own, atypical, and unexpected view of usual things. In his works, the author boldly transforms and synthesizes canonised Soviet symbols, replicable examples of social and Western mass culture. He approaches ideological cliches as a researcher, actively including them in his art experience. The creativity of the artist is full of allusions and subtexts: he does not give direct answers to the topical and eternal questions, but manages to play with generalizations and encourages reflection. In his opinion, all that remains for the artist in the current realities is “to act in your own category, without restricting stylistic frames, connecting the past with modernity in search for future.”
