HRESKO MYROSLAV

Myroslav Hresko was born on 6 March 1949 in Tiaziv village, Tysmenytsia district, Ivano-Frakivsk region. He received his art education at the Kyiv Art Institute, graduating in 1977 with a degree in architecture. His teachers were A. Dobrovolskyi, M. Popov, and O. Pianida. For a long time after graduation, from 1980 to 2004, he worked as an architect and designer at the Ivano-Frankivsk Art and Production Combine. He was the author of the reconstruction of the exterior and the interiors of puppet theatre in Ivano-Frankivsk.

He works in icon and monumental painting. Sacral painting became the most comfortable for an artist. From the beginning of the 1990s, Myroslav became the author of the iconostasis paintings of numerous churches in Ivano-Frankivsk and Transcarpathian regions. He completed the painting of the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ivano-Frankivsk (1992), iconostasis of the Church of St. Archangel Michael in his native village Tiaziv (1994), iconostasis of the Chapel of Mercy of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Mukachevo (1997), iconostasis of the church in Uzhhorod (2009).

He also creates paintings, in particular, traditional Transcarpathian landscapes, still lifes and portraits. Art critics note that his works are emotionally saturated, they bear a true positive charge, create a good mood. They are very picturesque, full of sun, light and warmth.

He is one of the few artists creating canvases on historical themes. Thus, in his creativity, there are paintings which glorify the renowned Cossack era, the liberation struggle of the Ukrainian people. Art historians note that his works are based on the traditions of the monumental and sacred art of Byzantium, Kyivan Rus, folk art.

Since 1982, he has participated in regional, all-Ukrainian and foreign art exhibitions. Personal exhibitions were held in Uzhhorod in 2004, 2009 and 2014.
