Biography

Member of the Creative Association of Artists G12  in Budapest.

She was born on 31 January in 1948 in Solomonovo village, Uzhhorod district, Transcarpathia. In 1968, she graduated from the Uzhhorod School of Applied Arts, Department of Art Ceramics.  Her teachers were E. Medvetska, A. Dunchak, and H. Chuvalov. Since 1972 she has been living and working in Hungary.

Works in graphics. As the artist tells about her work herself, the ancient painting messages from the past, cave drawings had a huge influence on her work. "There are a lot of personal things in my works. With the help of lines, strokes, spots, contrast, colour, I convert the essence, moments of life, my thoughts about the world into a picture, reality. I strive to achieve harmony, beauty," says Katalin Hollo. “All my works go through my heart, I put my own emotions and feelings in them."

As noted by art historians, K. Hollo created a very balanced, harmonious concept of a painting. "All the themes of her works testify to the considerable experience and profoundly interpretive art behaviour," a Hungarian art critic Balazh Feledi notes in one of his works. “The artist's works are not ecstatic, they usually do not have tensions and tragic events, because their sketch interpretations are a compositional work of the meditative, balanced spirit. Accordingly, if we can use such terms in this genre, her drawings are not loud but silent, but they have a strong avant-garde of their own thoughts."

Art critics note the exquisite technique of Katalin Hollo, emphasizing that the disciplined lines, density, sensuality turns the artist's paintings into complex works of art.  "In the pictures-messages important are memories, visual elements of the environment, architectural attributes, sacred themes related to faith," Balazh Feledi clarified. “There is a kind of fairy tale in the artist’s paintings: they tell about the city where she lives, about the surrounding nature, and then flowing into the world of memories and imaginations. The artist actually creates images ... which, despite their static nature, tell stories, conveys the depths of spirituality and worldview of a sensitive artist.”

Since 1996, Katalin Hollo has participated in numerous personal and collective exhibitions in Hungary and abroad.
