Biography

He was born on 3 March 1961 in Uzhhorod. He studied at the secondary school No. 2, where his art teacher was Zoltan Bakoniia. In Gyuri’s family, both grandfathers were more or less involved in creativity: the paternal grandfather was engaged in construction and architecture, and maternal grandfather – in the decorative and applied arts. Gyuri’s parents dreamt that their son to acquire a promising profession – an electronics engineer, but Gyuri "successfully" failed the entrance exams to the college. Thus, he studied at the preparatory courses at Ivan Manailo, and later, in 1977, he entered the Uzhhorod College of Applied Arts. It became possible thanks to the father of his close friend, who saw a talent for painting in the young man. In the college, his teachers were I. Didyk, V. Petretskyi, I. Masniuk.

After finishing his studies, he spent two years in the armed forces, where he served with Peter Matl, Vasyl Roman and Yaroslav Danyliv, who also became self-sufficient artists. After the service, he worked in the Transcarpathian Regional Consumer Union. He started his career with B. Kuzma and T. Danylych. In 1984, Gyuri entered the Lviv Institute of Decorative Arts, where he studied at the Faculty of Interior and Equipment until 1989. His teachers were R. Vasylyk, M. Vendzylovych. The outstanding artist Ivan Ostafiichuk had a significant influence on the creative development of the future artist, thanks to which the author discovered new techniques for painting, mostly painting on glass.

From 1991 to 1995, the artist lived and worked in France, taking an active part in the exhibition activity. And then, after returning to his homeland, since 1996, he began teaching firstly at the Uzhhorod College of Arts named after A. Erdeli, and later in the Transcarpathian Artistic Institute (department of art metal), he teaches painting and composition.

A certain period of the artist's work was associated with his staying in Spain (in 2010), in this very country the master created a lot of paintings. To convey the atmosphere of sunny Spain he used golden colour with which he toned his canvases, thus creating paintings.

A significant part of the works – paintings on the glass. The artist fell in love with this technique during his studies in Lviv, when he got acquainted with the work of the artist Ivan Ostafiichuk (it was painting on the glass). Pictures on the glass of Gyuri Dykun – a story, episodes from his life, enhanced by fantasy and symbolism. The artist believes: "If something important happened to you, then you just have to use it. Thus, I convey the essence on the glass. Art should be created easily, then it is easy to perceive. The peculiarity of my works is that their secret content needs to be interpreted as if to raise the veil. When a person comprehends, everything starts to be easy." By the way, the artist uses the so-called technique of "broken glass" in his painting when the completed picture does not break when falling.

Participant in regional, republican and all-Ukrainian exhibitions. The author of personal exhibitions in France and Ukraine. The author's works are in private collections of Ukraine, the United States of America, Canada, Hungary, France and Spain.
