DEMIAN IVAN

Laureate of the Regional Prize named after Y. Bokshai and A. Erdeli in 2011 for a series of sculptural works "Poetry of a Woman's State". Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (2015). Laureate of the Regional Prize named after Y. Bokshai and A. Erdeli (2017).

He was born in Veliatyno of Khust district, Transcarpathian region. In 1993, he graduated from the Uzhhorod College of Decorative and Applied Arts named after A. Erdeli.  His teachers were A. Kovach, Y. Pal, M. Mykhailiuk.

In painting the artist is an ardent supporter of the Transcarpathian School: his works are bright, the master boldly plays with colours, reflects on their help the mood of nature, rural landscapes and Verkhovyna’s villages of his native land. He admits that the Carpathian landscapes, mostly mountains, inspire him the most.

The master has a lot of graphics works. Here the thematic diversity is wider – starting from the ancient motifs and ending with traditions, beliefs, the mythology of the native land. The work often carries a symbolic character. Often the master woven one or two colours into the black and white range and thus emphasizes, strengthens precisely that line, the idea to which the viewer wants to draw attention. But, the best talent of the artist is shown in the sculpture: wood, marble, stone, clay – all these materials are melting in the hands of the sculptor and obediently allow you to get them out of these masterpieces. One of the artist's favourite themes is the image of a woman: completed and seductive, mysterious and gentle, always and everywhere – such is a girl, a mother, a generation protectress in his works ("Awakening", "Seraphim", "Mature", "Judith"). Each line, each bend, and stroke is so thought-out carved, weighed that it is easy to "read" the whole gamut of feelings that the author experienced and tried to convey into his work.

He is a constant participant of district, regional and international exhibitions, sculptural symposiums and plein airs. Works of the master are kept in numerous private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
