Biography

a painter, graphic artist, master of decorative and applied art (textile), namely of tapestry. Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1977).

She was born in Uzhhorod in the family of teachers. Her sister Edita Medvetska is also very famous Transcarpathian artist. Her relationships with art started with the art studio of Zoltán Bakoniia, which Tereziia visited when a teenager. Later, in 1968 she obtained higher education at the Lviv State Institute of Applied Arts, Art Weaving Department. The great influence on her work was made by her teachers Y. Mysko, R. Selskyi, V. Monastyrskyi. She expressed interest in tapestry weaving in her student years and started learning embroidery and cut, Hutsul woollen blankets that are differed from a modern tapestry only by technique. Roman Selskyi supported the student's creative searches, and soon she created her first great work, as well as the thesis - a tapestry "Native Transcarpathia", which was marked by a special diploma at the all-union exhibition in 1968.

Since 1969, the artist has been working in Transcarpathian studios of the Art Fund of Ukraine. She creates a lot of sketches and cuttings, which were used for numerous concert costumes of the region choirs. At the same time, the artist began participating in regional, all-Ukrainian and all-union exhibitions.

Tereziia Chuvalova is an artist of decorative, applied, and monumental arts. Her masterpieces include posters, mosaic panels, decorative compositions ("Signs of the Zodiac" series), textile works, designs for premises decorating. She also created numerous blankets, tapestries ("Summer", "Musicians"), designed a lot of sketches for carpets, etc.

It is worth noting the monumental tapestry-triptych "Contemporary Theatre", which was made for the Transcarpathian music and drama theatre in 1987. The composition is 48 (!) square meters, tapestry has 519 colours.

In addition, in 1982 the artist embodied her ideas in the smalt mosaic of the six elements called "Based on Fairy Tales" for the Uzhhorod City Children's Library.

Among the paintings, predominant are still lifes and portraits, made with a certain decorative style, wonderful sense of colour and compositional solution.

Since 1969, she has participated in more than 50 exhibitions, regional, all-Ukrainian, and all-union. The personal exhibition of the master was held in 1977 in Uzhhorod.
