Рainter, artist of applied art.
Member of the Transcarpathian Organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1989). Member of the Society of Hungarian artists of Transcarpathia named after Imre Révész (1993).
Marharyta Berets was born on 25 March 1956. Her father was a well-known Transcarpathian artist Vilmosh Berets (1915-1999), her mother was Olena Churakova, who came from a well-known artistic family and for a long time worked as the main curator of the funds of the Transcarpathian Art Museum.
In 1975, Marharyta graduated from the department of art ceramics in the Uzhhorod College of Applied Arts, where her teachers were V. Berets, R. Diakivskyi. In 1983 she graduated from the Faculty of Art Textile of the Lviv State Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts (now the Academy of Arts), where the teachers were M. Tokar, V. Monastyrskyi, and V. Ovsiichuk. After that she worked as a research officer of the Transcarpathian Art Museum, then in the Uzhhorod artistic and industrial studios of the Art Fund. From 1992 to 2007 she worked as an expert art critic of the department of examination of cultural values in the Transcarpathian Museum of Local History. Her active artistic path began in 1975.
Marharyta inherited from her talented parents love to graphics, painting, icon painting. She also enjoys tapestry weaving. She chose this genre while studying at the Lviv State Institute.
The artist works mainly with wool, she paints yarn by herself. Marharyta’s woven tapestries are, as a rule, designed for wall. The author performs the sketches by herself. Sometimes it happens that the basis of the plot of the tapestry is a pictorial canvas. The conventional decorative imagery that is reproduced by the master often comes close to symbolism, which is inherent and traced in the complex classical carpets of the East. There is interpretation of conventionally folklore motifs in M. Berets's art. The colour scheme, the general style of shaping and colouring that characterize her tapestries reach the impact of the monumentalists of the 1920s. The range of author's manner, the attraction to the phrasing of the work's plane, the emphasis on rhythmic melodies and ethnically tinted colouring affirm that there is a high degree of development of the art of the classic tapestry of Marharyta Berets.
Recently she has worked as a painter. As noted by art historians, in M. Berets's works can be felt tapestry technique, ornamentality, constructive decorative decision of planes.
Participant of many regional, national, international art plein air. Personal exhibitions of the author were held in Lviv in 1982 and in Uzhhorod (in 1984 and in 2001). Works of the artist are kept in art museums of Ukraine and abroad, in private collections.
