BAZAN VOLODYMYR

He was born in Uzhhorod. In 1974, he graduated from  Uzhhorod College of Applied Arts (his teachers were A. Dunchak, V. Petretskyi, S. Petki). For a while he worked in the studios of the regional Art Fund. He organized exhibitions, as well as planned and manufactured  interior and exterior decorative mosaics on the territory of the former USSR. In the mid-1990s, he left for Hungary, where he was formed as an artist. The artist belongs to the artistic generation of the 1980s, for which it is peculiar a long search for own way,  themes, techniques, and stylistics.

Accordingly, the work of V. Bazan is like a concentrate of searches of the 1980s and 1990s, the eclecticism of subjects, manners, compositional decisions, and colour building of forms. However, this is the eclecticism, which evolved into a style. As a result, a suggestive picture of the world was created on the canvases, in which the manner of the old masters, a certain icon-painting component, and an echo of ancient myths and legends are read. Thus, by classical means–diligent painting in combination with textures and generalizations – the artist tries to convey a modern understanding of the world. The world, what is scattered into fragments, difficult to capture and, perhaps, by re-sampling fragments gives rise to a new quality.

Participant of more than a dozen group exhibitions in Ukraine, Romania, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary. Personal exhibitions in Uzhhorod (1983, 1991, 1992), Kyiv (1991, 1992), Canada (1992), Germany (1993), and Hungary (1994, 1995, 2003, 2004).  The artist's works can be found in the galleries of Uzhhorod, Mukachevo, and Kecskemet (Hungary), as well as in private collections in Canada, the USA, Brazil, Israel, Germany, and the Czech Republic.
