Biography

She was born on 17 April 1945 in Slavuta, Khmelnytskyi region. In 1952, her family moved to Uzhhorod, where she finished 7 grades of the school No 4.

In 1959, she entered the Uzhhorod State Art Industrial School, Department of Art Pottery and graduated with honours in 1964. At the same time, she attended evening school No. 5.

From 1964 to 1969, she was studying at the Moscow Higher Art and Industrial College (Strohanovske), Department of Ceramics.

From 1969 to 2001, the artist was working at the Uzhhorod School of Applied Arts. She taught composition, folk ornament, drawing, sculpture, pottery, and painting.

Among her students, there were Liudmyla Yashkina, Mahdalyna Puhlyk, Olha Lukach, Myroslava Rosul,  Viacheslav Vinkovskyi, Ivan Nebesnyk-junior, Vladyslav Habda, Volodymyr Cherepania, Marianna Berets, Artur Rushchak and many other famous artists.

For decades of teaching, Liudmyla Averkiieva worked fruitfully in various art forms and genres. In particular, she made sketches and cardboard designs of the restaurant “Hrono Zakarpattia” in Pidvynohradiv village, embodied in the sgraffito. She executed the panels in the store “Kobzar”, decorated classes in the Hungarian gymnasium, etc.

Her works include hundreds of various ceramic products, porcelain vases, watches, lamps, faience works, garden sculptures of chamotte, pottery (majolica), etc.

She works with various materials and techniques. She knows gypsum-modelling and pottery, moulding, perfectly knows various techniques and technologies of painting (smalt, metal, painting with enamels, glazes, salts).

A special place in her work occupies painting. She created dozens of versatile canvases – still lifes, landscapes, genre scenes. She also paints on glass with acrylic paints and so on.

The themes of the artist’s creations are closely linked to the culture of peoples of the world. Liudmyla Averkiieva is inspired by the legends, myths, and fairy tales. The culture of Greece, Rome and Slavic countries had a special influence on her. Her works depict mythical creatures, fairy tale characters: centaurs, mermaids, heroes of Carpathian fairy tales and legends. She works easily and unconstrainedly, creating true masterpieces.

Despite the fact that the artist is extremely talented and has significant creative achievements, Liudmyla Averkiieva's creativity has hardly been studied and is poorly represented.
