Khir Andrii

He was born in Uzhhorod. During the last 12 years, he has been living and working in Lviv. Andrii received higher education in "architect" speciality under the National University "Lviv Polytechnic".

He works as an architect and simultaneously is engaged in painting, street art, folklore, poetry, and design. In the artist's works, as he says himself, "text is much more important than a picture." "I'm curious to work with proverbs and sayings as with the text characters because they are often used on a subconscious level," he said. Now we do not visualize things we are talking about. If you do it, then the picture turns out very strange."

He conducts research on Ukrainian archaic. According to art historians, the wall paintings of Andrii Khir come out of spiritual narratives, which he explores in order to understand what is behind the already known sources. Then he transforms them according to his personal beliefs and morality into an abstract painting with the bizarre unearthly creatures. The artist's mysticism is noted both in Ukraine and abroad.

In 2013, the author entered the list of 20 nominees of the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2013, and also presented his personal project "Proverbs" ("Ya Gallery" in Dnipro), devoted to the study of the philosophical component of Ukrainian folklore.

The author and participant of personal and collective projects. The artist’s works were involved in the collective projects of the art centre under the supervision of Pavlo Hudimov – Neofolk project, the special project "Pulse of Africa" (2014) and "WARHOL’S RELATIVES – Contemporary Art of Western Ukraine".

In 2011, in "Ya Gallery" art centre he presented a personal project "Khir – a beast from the mountains".

In 2015, it was held a personal exhibition "Superstitions". He is an active participant in the annual Black Circle - a street art festival in the abandoned buildings.
