Emilian Hrabovskyi supported the creative plans of Erdeli and Bokshai and belonged to the first leaders of the new art in the region. His main artistic interest was the nature of his native land, which he consistently developed in the best traditions of realism with great care and compliance with the truthfulness of the image. The artist found his style, perhaps not so colourful and temperamental as compared with the works of Erdeli and Bokshai, but elegantly lyrical and trustingly sincere. The peculiarity of his talent was the mastery of a pencil, the ability to deduce tonal proportions in strokes. He was the only master of the graphic landscape at the time.

Emilian Hrabovskyi, the son of a Polish land survey engineer, participant in the anti-Russian rebellion in 1863-1864, was born on November 20, 1892 in Uzhhorod. Hrabovskyi went to study in Budapest the same year as Erdeli – in 1911. Firstly, he studied at the school of applied arts, then – at the Higher School of Fine Arts. The end of 1918 he spent at the creative centre in Nodban (now Baia-Mare, Romania). In the 1910s and 1920s, the young artist created many remarkable drawings and oil paintings. He participated in the exhibition in Kosice in 1921. Unfortunately, because of permanent deprivation, a modest and unpretentious by nature artist was forced to leave Transcarpathia in 1926 and work in Budapest for the thirteen years as a restorer. After his return to Uzhhorod in 1939, a new stage of his creative work began. Hrabovskyi stood on the same positions of realistic painting and also worked in the landscape genre, participated in exhibitions.

Emilian Hrabovskyi died in Uzhhorod on October 20, 1955, for a month later than his friend Adalbert Erdeli.
