2017
On 13 October 2017, in the Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Life it was opened an exhibition of works by the "Silver Easel" laureates Anastasiia Mitikova and Petro Hrytsiuk.
Young artists took part in the 2nd All-Ukrainian Student Contest in Painting "Silver Easel", which was held in Uzhhorod this April. They received a special prize from the curator of the "Velykyi Pereviz" art residency Tamara Babak – the opportunity to live and create at the art institution during 10 days.
About two dozen works performed by the laureates during their stay in Poltava were presented at the exhibition organized by Oleksandr and Tamara Babak together with the Art & Culture Foundation Brovdi Art in the framework of the 3rd Open Student Contest in Painting "Silver Easel".
According to the artist, co-founder of the art residency Oleksandr Babak, the young artist Nastia Mitikova prefers painting from life, she feels the composition and reproduces what she saw well. "Petro Hrytsiuk, on the contrary, thinks via avant-garde categories, he has his own vision, but it is felt the spirit of the place where he paints his works. The fact that the artists are so different enriches the exhibition very much," O. Babak added.
A curator and co-founder of the art residency, an artist Tamara Babak decided to make an exhibition of works by young artists even while they were living and working at the art residency: "I got this idea when Nastia and Petro were painting in the "Velykyi Pereviz", I wanted to show the pictures of these young people in order to inspire and motivate future participants of "Silver Easel". Petro, according to the curator, was so much inspired that, after returning from the art residency, he continued to create. Thus, the works created in Lviv were also presented at the exhibition, but they were imbued with the spirit of the "Velykyi Pereviz". "Such a contest as the "Silver Easel" is a great opportunity for the development of young artists and it is very necessary today," Tamara added.
At the opening of the exhibition, Anastasiia Mitikova said that she was still impressed with the picturesque landscapes she had seen in Poltava region. She – an artist of the plein air type – considered the atmosphere of the "Velykyi Pereviz" and the spirit of creativity that dominated in the art residency thanks to the founders to be a breath of new creative inspiration.
Petro Hrytsiuk, in his turn, added that thanks to the "Velykyi Pereviz" he created a series of works in which he conveyed the emotions received during his stay at the art residency: "I am sincerely grateful to the organizers of "Silver Easel" contest as well as to Oleksandr and Tamara Babak for everything that they have done for us. Now we're definitely more confident, and it's very important to move forward."
According to Tamara and Oleksandr Babak, even this time (during the ceremony of determining the winners of the Open Student Contest in Painting "Silver Easel") they plan to award several candidates so that they can rest after the intense contest days, feel the spirit of the place and create new works.
