ART CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION TO THE MEMORY OF SIMON HOLLÓSY IN UZHHOROD

22-23 February 2017 the Transcarpathian Academy of Arts held an international scientifically-practical conference on the occasion of the 160th birthday of the outstanding artist and pedagogue Simon Hollosy (1857-1918).

He was born in a Hungarian family, in Sighetu Marmației (Romania). He received an art education in Budapest and then in Munich, where he headed the well-known all over Europe private school of drawing. In 1896, together with like-minded people he founded the art school-colony in Nagyban (now Satu Mare, Romania), traditions of which served as an example for the founders of the Transcarpathian school of painting Yosyp Bokshai and Adalbert Erdeli.

From 1904 Hollosy annually spent the summer and autumn in the plein-airs near Tiachiv, and in 1914 he settled and lived in this Transcarpathian town until his death. Within the conference in Uzhhorod, the reports on the life and career of Simon Hollosy, which played a significant role in the development of art in Hungary and numerous countries of Europe at the turn of XIX-XX centuries, were given by the director of the Art Museum of Satu Mare (Romania) Liuba Horvat, rector and lecturers of the Transcarpathian Academy of Arts Ivan Nebesnyk, Attila Kopryva, Anton Kovach, Ihor Lutsenko, Alina Voloshchuk and others.

The conference also hosted an exhibition of creative works of Transcarpathian artists Vasyl Kohutych, Olena Derda, Attila Kopryva, Yurii Shelevytskyi, Anton Kovach, Ihor Lutsenko, Odarka Dolhosh-Sopko, Borys Kuzma, Liudmyla Korzh-Radko, Serhii Lakatosh, Vasyl Pal.
