2018
On 6 December 2018, at the Transcarpathian Regional Art Museum named after Y. Bokshai, it was presented an album of graphics of the famous Honoured Artist of the Ukrainian SSR, the outstanding representative of the Transcarpathian school of painting Gabriel Gluck.
. Album “Graphics. Gabriel Gluck” was compiled by Yosyp Homoki (Gabriel Gluck Charitable Foundation) with the financial support of the Gabor Bethlen Foundation (Hungary) and with the assistance of the Consulate General of the Hungarian Republic in Uzhhorod.
According to Ildyka Molnar, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, the uniqueness of this publication is that it is the first catalogue containing exclusively the artist's graphics: “Gluck is known as a painter, but his graphics are unique, and few are familiar with them. Therefore, we are very pleased that now people will be able to familiarize themselves with another direction of the creativity of this unique master, one of the leading personalities of the Transcarpathian school of painting.” In general, the album is the second part of the project on presentation of graphic art by Gabriel Gluck to the public. The first one was an exhibition of his works at the Uzhhorod Gallery “Ilko” this year.
All published photos are from the artist's family archive. Graphics are divided according to the periods of creativity and subject matter. For example, the artist’s portraits – children, adults, representatives of different layers of the population, native artists, and he himself are in a separate chapter. Dobronskyi period – one more page of creativity Gabriel Gluck, and, accordingly, another chapter. “During the preparation of the album, there was one problem – how to select drawings. Gyuri Dykun (a Transcarpathian artist - Author) and I were studying the large number of them from all sides and did not know how to arrange them, because in fact, from all the drawings, we could publish a three-volume book,” an art historian, who prepared the preface to the catalogue Mykhailo Syrokhman told during the presentation. “It was possible to combine those works in different ways, but we wanted to choose something to make up the integrity. So we decided to choose a few but from each cycle. ”
As M. Syrokhman told during the presentation of the publication, “Gluck is really a brilliant graphic artist, there is no need to persuade anyone in it, obviously, they all see it. But a special taste, a special delight is his stroke – how skilfully he made it, how he conveyed light and shadow! If you just move your eyes to another work, there are impressive lines, the ease with which the master drew! While you enjoy one work, there appears a whole series of sketches to the “Loggers”, one could practically issue a separate catalogue for this painting. From “Loggers” we go to drawings – somewhere he used a marker, somewhere he used watercolour – and everything is so nice and so precise that there is not even one micron, that could be wrong. A genius hand and nothing else can be said here!”
The biography of the artist was prepared by the Honoured Artist of Ukraine Liudmyla Korzh-Radko.
Along with the presentation of the album, the organizers of the exhibition presented about a dozen graphics of the artist.
