SAPATIUK MYKHAILO

А brilliant representative of the Transcarpathian School of Painting. He was born in Prague in family of immigrant from Transcarpathia. He studied at Ukrainian gymnasium in Prague, where he graduated from the art studio under the guidance of the renowned artists: I. Palyvoda, A. Navotny, M. Hai-Haievskyi, the professors. He went through the Second World War. After demobilization he settled in Uzhhorod, where he lived till the end of his life.

He worked in easel painting technique. Favourite genre of the artist was landscape. Dominating in his canvases are local nature and rural landscapes, although there are paintings with images of the city over the river Uzh. A realistic painting of the artist differs in originality and harmony, bright and rich colours, peculiar for the classic Transcarpathian School of Painting.

Since 1950 the artist regularly took part in exhibitions and plein-airs in Ukraine, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland. Since 1963 – the member of the Artists Union of the USSR. He maintained a creative dialogue with Y. Bokshai, A. Kashshai and G.Gluck. He showed his talent of artist and designer at the theatres of Lviv, Uzhhorod and Transcarpathian Art and Design Studio. The artist had several personal exhibitions in Uzhhorod. His works are at numerous museums and private collections.
