Classics of Transcarpathian school

Transcarpathian school of painting is a unique cultural phenomenon that was formed in Transcarpathia within the 1920s and 1950s on the basis of the Western European art of the early twentieth century on the one hand and aesthetics and centuries-old traditions of folk art of the region on the other hand.

The formation and development of this school is associated with the names of European artists, coryphaei of painting-Yosyp Bokshai, Adalbert Erdeli, Fedir Manailo, as well as their associates, students, followers -Ernest Kontratovych, Vasyl Svyda, Zoltan Sholtes, Andrii Kotska, Vasyl Habda, Adalbert Boretskyi, Gabriel Gluck, Anton Kashshai and other outstanding artists.

They became true classics of ideas, principles, colour, as well as genre, thematic and stylistic features of one of the brightest, powerful and original painting schools in Ukraine.
